Tokyo Olympics: Nigeria’s D’Tigress bow out after third loss to Japan

Nigeria’s women’s national basketball team the D’Tigress have bowed out of the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games women’s basketball competition.

This follows their third Group B 102-83 points defeat to Japan on Monday dawn at the Saitama Super Arena.

They lost their first group game by 81-72 points on Tuesday, July 27, before succumbing to an 87-62 points loss to France three days later.

The Japanese team proved too hot for the D’Tigress as they won 30-22 in the first quarter, relying mostly on three-pointers.

The second quarter was played with a lot of intensity as D’Tigress worked to keep their heads in the game but fell 21-16 to Japan.

Japan also took the third quarter, outscoring D’Tigress 33-19, relying more again on the three-points shots.

Nigeria won the fourth quarter 26-18 but it was too late for a comeback as the game was decided.

Japan has progressed to the quarterfinal of the competition with two wins out of their three group games.

The Nigerian team were making a return to the Olympics since the 2004 edition in Athens, Greece.
