Victor Osimhen racing against time to be fit for 2021 Afcon

Nigeria striker Victor Osimhen is racing against time to be fit for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in January 2022 after picking up an injury.

The Napoli star has been diagnosed with multiple displaced facial fractures after a clash of heads with Inter Milan defender Milan Skriniar in a Serie A clash on Sunday.

It is reported that the Super Eagles hitman could be out for over a month after initial tests, as he is set to undergo surgery to repair the fractures.

A dazed Osimhen was able to walk off the pitch after 55 minutes in Napoli’s 3-2 defeat to Inter.

Osimhen was taken to the San Raffaele Hospital for tests, which showed multiple displaced fractures of the left cheekbone and orbital bone.

He is Napoli’s top scorer this season with five Serie A goals and four in the Europa League.

Victor Osimhen scored in both of Nigeria’s last 2022 World Cup qualifiers against Liberia and Vape Verde as the Super Eagles sailed through to the playoffs.

Nigeria will kickoff their 2021 Afcon campaign on January 11, 2022, against Egypt in a Group D clash.
