2021 Afcon: Late Allevinah strike helps Gabon hold Ghana to 1-1 draw

A Jim Allevinah late strike secured a valuable 1-1 draw for Gabon against Ghana in a Group C clash of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon).

The Black Stars are now on the brink and need to beat Comoros on Tuesday, January 18 and hope the result in the Morocco versus Gabon clash goes in their favour.

The Panthers now have four points from two games while Ghana has just a point after losing 1-0 to Morocco in their opening group game.

Gabon took the game to Ghana in the opening 15 minutes, pinning them back and hitting the base of the post.

Ghana eventually steadied the flow of the game and took the lead after 19 minutes.

Thomas Partey passed to captain Andre Ayew, who was a long way out, skipped past his marker before firing into the left post for the opener.

The Panthers, who showed a lot of aggressiveness and pace, still kept on pressing Ghana but the Black Stars held on to the 1-0 lead at the break.

Goalkeeper Jojo Wollacott made a brave stop in the 58th minute to stop a Gabon attacker from picking up a lobbed ball.

Jim Allevinah drew Gabon level with a left-footed strike in the 88th minute inside the box to end the game 1-1.
