2022 WCQ: No Benrahma as Belmadi announces Algeria squad for Cameroon games

Algeria coach Djamel Belmadi has left out some regulars in his 24-man squad to face Cameroon in their 2022 Fifa World Cup qualifying playoff games against Cameroon.

West Ham United’s Said Benrahma and Al Sadd’s Baghdad Bounedjah are among some of the surprise omissions in the list of the Desert Foxes to face the Indomitable Lions.

There are debut invites for Etoile du Sahel defender Youcef Laouafi and Al-Wakrah forward Mohamed Benyettou.

Adlène Guedioura and Nice’s Hicham Boudaoui are some notable returnees.

Algeria will be looking to make up for the disappointment of exiting the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) at the group phase after winning the 2019 edition in Egypt.

The first leg will be played in Cameroon at the Japoma Stadium in Douala on March 25 while the reverse fixture is four days later at the Stade Mustapha Tchaker.
